SUMMARY
Leads a small (5-10 FTE) team of mechanical, electrical, optical, and hardware sustaining engineers to deliver robust, high performance robotic exoscope products. A proven leader and mentor that has the ability to clarify difficult technical topics and provide clear goals for the team. This person will motivate the team to create the next generation of imaging, navigation, robotic and display technologies. The position requires self-motivation and the ability to operate with minimal guidance to coordinate interactions with various contributors and stakeholders that surround technically complex designs. An intuitive feel for robotic, mechatronic, and optical systems is required as is the ability to communicate effectively with interdisciplinary engineering teams. Medical device experience is strongly preferred, and candidates must have a track record of managing engineering teams through the full product development cycle, from concept through manufacturing transfer and launch, including standards compliance, regulatory testing and submission.

SALARY AND PAY TRANSPARENCY
Salary range for this position is between $150,000 and $185,000.  Base pay is dependent upon many factors, such as training, transferable skills, work experience, education, business needs and market demands. The base pay range is subject to change and may be modified in the future. This role may also be eligible for bonus and all applicable company benefits.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
include the following.  Other duties may be assigned.
  • Cultivate a milestone-driven culture, in which accountability, high quality standards, and team collaboration are expected. 
  • Critical thinking and problem solving through leadership and hands-on management.
  • Promote engineering best practices and project diligence in analysis and documentation.
  • Active reviewer of all aspects of design performance, compliance, reliability, manufacturability, etc.  (DFx).
  • Manage the team to develop solutions that meet the defined market and product requirements.
  • Manage project/individual contributor tasks per project scope and schedule using Jira or other task management tools. Phase-based development experience preferred.
  • Manage engineering documentation system and design transfer to production and/or service. PLM/PDM experience (Arena, Solidworks, Altium).
  • Solid ability to level and plan resources to balance sustaining and new product development activities and adapt to changing priorities.
  • Simultaneously manage multiple internal and external initiatives/projects and deliver to schedule expectations.
  • Report on schedule and technical progress of the team to program management, executive leadership, and in quarterly management review meetings.
  • Experienced in medical device or other FDA controlled environment, including IEC 60601, ISO 13485, ISO 14971.
  • Some level of technical contribution (~10%) is expected in the individual’s area of expertise.

Education/Experience
Requires a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, or related. Minimum of 6+ years of product development experience and 3+ years engineering management experience.

Language
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.  Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.  Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the public. Knowledge of the structure and content of the English language including the meaning and spelling of words, rules of composition, and grammar.

Additional Skills
To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook or equivalent. 

The following software knowledge is also required:
Working knowledge of Scrum or other Agile development methodologies (Jira preferred)
Working knowledge of Mechanical Engineering concepts and best practices
Working knowledge of Electrical Engineering concepts and best practices
Expertise in medical device hardware development
Experience with optical concepts, optical design and camera technology
